The Association of Computer Village Technology Merchants of Nigeria (ACOVITEMN) has entered into a landmark partnership with the Federal Government of Nigeria, represented by the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology (FMIST). This collaboration is poised to enhance research and development in the ICT sector, advance technological innovation, and promote economic growth and wealth creation across the country.
Chief Uche Nnaji, the Honourable Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, known for his visionary leadership, underscored the importance of this collaboration. He highlighted the need for stronger ties between researchers and inventors to ensure that research outcomes are effectively commercialized—a critical step in advancing Nigeria’s science and technology ecosystem.
During the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Abuja, Chief Nnaji emphasized, “The MoU we are signing today is a pivotal move toward our shared objective of reducing imports into Nigeria and fostering talent development within the ICT sector. We are fully committed to the successful implementation of this agreement, and to that end, a committee comprising representatives from both parties will be established to work on the details of its execution.”
This strategic partnership aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s 8-Point Agenda, particularly in the areas of job creation and economic growth. Chief Nnaji further stated that the economic success and industrial leadership of nations and corporations are primarily driven by Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI).
Prince Anthony Nwakeze, President of ACOVITEMN, along with key members of the association, including Mr. Fidelis Ezeugwu, Legal Committee Chairman; Sir Gabriel O. Igwe (Ksji); Ohiaeri Okechukwu, Allocation Committee Chairman; and Nnadi Margaret Nonyem, Women Leader, expressed optimism about the MoU. They believe it will expedite the development of expertise among technicians in Computer Village and facilitate their certification, thereby increasing their recognition both nationally and internationally.
